About Our

Bespoke Guiding & Instruction

We do not run group courses as we want you to get the most out of your day in the hills.
We believe that giving you individual attention is the way to achieve this, as it means you can tell us exactly what you want to do. The day can be tailor made exactly to suit you.

Outdoor Adventure

We are based in the beautiful village of Braemar on Royal Deeside in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park. Surrounded by stunning mountains and ancient Caledonian pine forest, home to red deer, golden eagles, pine martens and so much more, we really do have it all right on our doorstep.

We do not run group courses as we want you to get the most out of your day on the hill and we believe that giving you individual attention is the way to achieve this. This means you can tell us exactly what you want to do!

Your Guide

Sue Harper Todd

  1. Braemar Guides is owned and run by Sue Harper Todd. In 2004 Sue became only the 5th British woman to stand on the summit of Mount Everest and the first to be Leader of an Everest Expedition. She has also sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from Southampton to St Lucia and has ski toured across the Alps from end to end, from Austria to the Mediterranean. Sue has been working in the outdoor environment for over thirty years. She has a B.Ed in Outdoor Education and is a qualified International Mountain Leader and BASI ski instructor. Sue first came to Braemar to live in 1983. However annual climbing and skiing forays to the European Alps eventually led to a permanent move to Chamonix, where she lived for 12 years. Whilst there Sue ran alpine trekking holidays and worked as a translator of climbing and walking guidebooks. She has had 4 translated works published. Sue then moved on to the Greater Ranges with expeditions to Aconcagua (6,692m) in South America, Cho Oyu (8201m) in Tibet, culminating with summiting the south side of Mount Everest in Nepal. Since then Sue has regularly run trekking trips to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Climbing Everest also prompted Sue to train as a Life Coach, so she could help people to achieve their own goals and climb their own Everests in life. When she stood on the summit of the highest mountain on the planet, looking at a view few in this lifetime will be privileged to see, she realised for the first time, that anything is possible for anyone, anywhere. If you can dream it, you can achieve it. And so life has come full circle. Home is where the heart is, and for Sue this is the beautiful village of Braemar, nestled in the Cairngorm Mountains in the heart of the National park. It is where her climbing career first started more than thirty years ago and, having travelled the world over, it is where life has brought her back to, with the creation of Braemar Guides. At Braemar Guides we literally are here to guide you, whether it be on foot, on ski, or guiding you to that goal you have always dreamed of achieving.
